Many times I’ve been told by readers that the Buddha was too spiritual to worry about being misquoted. This opinion seems to be based purely on those people’s idea of what the Buddha was like. They imagine that a great spiritual teacher must be extremely laid-back and forgiving. Actually the Buddha was extremely concerned about being misquoted. He was pretty firm about it, and could be scathing to those who misquoted him.
Over the years I’ve written a number of articles drawing on what the Buddha said about being misquoted, and I’ve gathered those here for you. Apologies for the titles not being very jazzy!
